Oral Appliances Can Make You Feel Better

Say goodbye to cumbersome CPAP machines and hello to the convenience and effectiveness of custom-made oral appliances.  An oral appliance is a small retainer that fits over your upper and lower teeth (similar to a mouth guard or an orthodontic retainer). This device slightly advances the lower jaw moving the base of the tongue forward to open the airway. This improves breathing and reduces or eliminates snoring and sleep apnea.

Oral Appliances

While there are many sleep apnea appliances available on the market today, the best way to get one that will actually help is to work with an experienced sleep dentist like Dr. Rodriguez-Valle. She’s received special training on how to provide appliances that can reposition the jaw during sleep in order to help patients stop snoring and overcome sleep apnea.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a very serious condition that needs careful attention and treatment. People with OSA have interrupted sleep and low blood oxygen levels. When obstructive sleep apnea occurs, the tongue and the muscles at the back of the throat relax and fall back. This blocks the upper airway, stopping the airflow.  When the airflow stops, the whole body does not get oxygen (essentially choking itself).
